Projects

  1. Chatbot for University Admission
    • Semester: Spring Semester 2020
    • Thesis Title: Jooka: A Bilingual University Admission Chatbot
    • Project Description: Thousands of high school graduates apply to enroll at the university every year. The admission team struggles to keep track of all the applicants’ records and enquiries. On the other hand, applicants have constant questions regarding their application status, majors offered, facilities,  and scholarships and financial aid. In this topic, we aim to create an interactive system that keeps track of the application status and documents required with their submission deadlines. This will be implemented through a chatbot that interacts with the applicants and answers their various admission questions.
  2. Chatbot for Advising Students
    • Semester: Spring Semester 2020
    • Thesis Title: SAMIR: Mentoring Chatbot for GUC Undergraduates
    • Project Description: At the beginning of each semester, advising and probation students find difficulties in choosing the courses they should take for the upcoming semester. Their choice is influenced by multiple factors such as the previously taken courses (passed and failed) and the number of credit hours available. In this topic, we aim to create a system that generates a graduation plan for the students containing the courses that will be taken for each semester till their expected graduation year. This will be done in an interactive way through the implementation of a chatbot.
  3. Conversational Content Management System
    • Semester: Spring Semester 2021
    • Thesis Title: Geeky Bob: A Conversational Content Management System
    • Project Description: Due to the novel COVID-19 outbreak, educational institutions had to provide quick online alternatives to on-campus teaching. Most educational institutions adopted the LMS approach and other alternatives such as the Content Management System (CMS). However, for students to retrieve all material related to a particular topic, they need to traverse all content per course which is time-consuming. On the other hand, conversational user interfaces provide an efficient way of interaction compared to the traditional graphical user interfaces. For instance, students can directly retrieve all material of a particular topic by typing a single text message. Therefore, in this project, you will develop a conversational user interface for the CMS platform, to improve its usability and the user experience.
  4. Chatbot for COVID-19 Vaccination
    • Semester: Spring Semester 2021
    • Thesis Title: COVIDO: A Chatbot for COVID-19 Vaccination
    • Project Description: Multiple efforts are done by multinational pharmaceutical companies to create safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines. As of 8 January 2021, more than 17 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines were transported to multiple countries for emergency use. Additionally, more than 10 billion vaccine doses were preordered by countries to be delivered in 2021. Chatbots played a crucial role in the spread of trusted information related to the pandemic, as well as, performing screening and symptoms checking. Therefore, in this project, you will implement a chatbot that will handle the vaccination process of individuals from the moment they inquire about the available vaccines, till they receive the second shot. The chatbot will help individuals ask about information related to the available vaccines, register to get a particular vaccine, and follow-up with them in case of any side effects.
